About the Sunshine Coast CentreThe Sunshine Coast Astronomy Club was formed on July 30, 2004 when a group of 16 enthusiasts met in Sandy Hook, a neighbourhood of Sechelt on the British Columbia Sunshine Coast. Since April 2005 we have been meeting regularly at Chatelech High School in Sechelt.Meetings are held on the second Friday of most months, commencing at 7:30 pm with a business meeting followed by a lecture or educational class that is usually over by 9 pm. Following the meeting, weather permitting, we head outside for observing with telescopes set up by club members. Tea and coffee are always served and in inclement weather members can stay indoors and socialize. In April 2008 we became the Sunshine Coast Centre of The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, the 29th centre of this prestigious national organization which was founded in 1868.
